8th Most Important Piston: Jason Maxiell (PLEASE EXCUSE HIS TENACITY!)

THE BEAST FROM THE BENCH!

THE BEAST FROM THE BENCH!

What’s Going On World?

John W. Davis here.  It’s time to get back to the Most Important Piston series here on Pistonscast.com.  We are counting down all the Detroit Pistons and discussing their overall value to the Detroit Pistons basketball team.

My number 8 Most Important Piston has to be Jason Maxiell.  Some people think he should start.  I think he is best off the bench.  Some people think he needs more playing time.  I think his 18-22 minutes for a game is just right.

To me, Jason Maxiell is what my boy Conor from England called him, “a game changer”.  For Maxiell to be truly be effective and change a game, he needs to come off that bench and be the energy that the Pistons need.

See every game is not the same.  Sometimes we need Maxiell to score,  but most times we need him to uplift our defense mentality.

Although the Detroit Pistons are multi-millionaires, NBA All-Stars and former NBA Champions, they sometimes lack intesity.  Yes I said it.  Sometimes they just don’t seem to want it bad enough.  But you know what, INTESITY is contagious.  And do you know who is infected with INTESITY… Yeah you guessed it, Jason Maxiell.

Could Jason Maxiell start?  Yes.  Should he?  I say no but that does not diminish his important role on our great Detroit Pistons Championship caliber basketball team.

Peace,

John W. Davis

Yeah, Maxiell is a BEAST! He’s so great at uplifting the team on the court with his energy.

I’ve seen that block many times on YouTube, and it never gets old. Amazing.

Ryan, Do you think the pistons should pay 6 million a year to keep Maxiell?

Ryan October 9th at 8:27 pm

I think so. He’s a great asset to the team.

He’s an excellent shot blocker, an excellent rebounder, and can get garbage buckets off offensive rebounds.

I don’t think he could really be immediately replaceable.

I don’t think anyone else besides Maxiell could’ve blocked Chandler like that, or have gotten Garnett in the playoffs.

Not many people would’ve tried to block Chandler once he was up that high — it proves that Maxiell plays with great heart, going out there night in and night out to give it his all.

I mean, look at this picture:

Rasheed’s just showing how Maxiell plays basketball (so much tenacity), and at the same time, he’s showing him what teams do after Maxiell’s done with them.

:-)

I dont think he will be happy as a bench player. He will probably want to start sometime soon and I dont like Amir and Maxiell together as a starting tandem.

Yeah, I see what you’re saying.

I think I read somewhere that he wants to stay in Detroit, though.

I don’t exactly remember what article it was I was reading.

Yeah but I know he wants money too. Money over prestige is what most NBA players take.

Ryan October 12th at 1:03 am

And that’s a shame, because you should be playing for the love of the game, not for the love of money.

Even the worst players in the NBA are millionaires.

“Even the worst players in the NBA are millionaires”.

I feel that! Adonal Foyle!!!

3 years/15 mil is what the team is offering to extend Maxiell, but i’m sure he can make more on the open market. With that said, if I was him I would take it and continue to learn under Sheed and Dice and then cash in when he is around 28.

John W. Davis October 13th at 5:19 pm

I think he will go for the open market money is money.

Ryan October 13th at 10:17 pm

Stupid money. :(

:)

Yeah, Adonal Foyle was picked #8 in the draft in 1997 and I think I could probably do better than his career averages when I’m at 6′1″.

:)
