Jason Maxiell to be a Free Agent

Pistons’ Maxiell to become restricted free agent

AUBURN HILLS — Jason Maxiell’s agent confirmed that his client will not sign a contract extension with the Detroit Pistons by the Oct. 31 deadline. That means the 6-foot-7 forward will become a restricted free agent next summer.

“(The team has) expressed that he is a major contributor to their success,” Maxiell’s agent, Richard Katz, said in a telephone interview on Friday. “What we differ about on, is what that is worth.”

The Pistons have offered the former first-round pick a three-year deal worth $15 million, with a team option for a fourth season.

What’s Going On World?

John W. Davis here.  Well its official Jason Maxiell believes he is worth more than 5 million a year.  I honestly agree with this decision.  He is worth 5 million at minimum, so why not see what he is worth after this season as a free agent.  Who knows, but with a dominant season off the bench he could earn 35 million over 5 or 6 years.

Peace,

John W. Davis

Restricted means we can match any offers, right?

Hopefully we’ll keep Jason Maxiell.

John W.

I love your website and podcasts but just don’t agree with you on Maxiell

There is some serious question whether he will ever be a starter in the NBA.

Top grade rotation bench players are not even getting a full MLE at this point.

Rony Turiaf is comparable to Maxiell and only got $4 million a year from GS.

Sasha Vuajcic got a 3 year $15 million deal from the Lakers and he is just as valuable to them as Maxiell is to us. I know because I live in Los Angeles and watch all the Lakers games.

Sorry John W. but we have an honest difference of opinion here.

You have to remember that Maxiell is one of the worst rebounding PF in the league and his defense is other than some spectacular blocks is very suspect at times. There is a reason that Amir leaped over him in the rotation and at this point it wasn’t because of scoring, though eventually Amir will score at 15 + on a regular basis.

If Adonal Foyle can get 8-9 million a year. So can he.

I think Maxiell can start just not for the Pistons.

Maxiell has a nice game. A Jumper, a good motor.

PF’s and Centers are a premium and teams frequently over pay for those positions.

Mike I’m enjoying our dialogue! Keep it coming.

I’d have to agree with John W. on this one too. I believe Maxiell can start for another team besides the PISTONS.

I dont remember if Memo started for us or not but now he’s in Utah Starting and playing very well.

The reason Amir is starting is because without a doubt he is a TRUE center. Not a PF/C as opposed to Sheed, Kwame and Dyess. Maxiell is more of a SF/PF type player who can play center.

With this move Sheed can go back to playing the position he is best at power foward.
