Pistons Small Ball

Whats Going on Pistonscast Posse?

It’s official our Pistons Prayers have been answered. Michael Curry has seen the light and now my eyes can see the glory. The glory of beating Cleveland. The glory of beating Boston. They glory of winning the 2009 NBA Championship. Well let’s not go that far. Let’s take it one game at a time but please be thankful that Small Ball is no more and the Pistonscast Boycott has been avoided.

DET NEWS: HAMILTON TO THE BENCH!

Pistons coach Michael Curry announced Tuesday that he will begin using guard Rip Hamilton off the bench, with guard Allen Iverson and forward Amir Johnson starting.

The situation has been somewhat unsettled since Hamilton returned from a groin injury.

Curry toyed with a smaller lineup, with guards Rodney Stuckey, Iverson and Hamilton as starters, joining front-court players Tayshaun Prince and Rasheed Wallace.

Curry said Hamilton, who has never come off the bench as a Piston, will start the second and fourth quarters.

The new starting lineup will be Stuckey, Iverson, Prince, Wallace and Johnson.

YES! NO MORE SMALL BALL!

I heard about there being some sort of team meeting to decide who would come off the bench on TNT last night.

I’m glad it was who I thought would be the best fit - Rippleton.

They were scared of the Pistonscast boycott and decided to give in.

Just because Rip is going to the bench does not cure all of the teams ills. Let’s not get carried away and also let’s not completely blame the small-ball lineup for all of these losses in the last week.

Bottom line: Someone needs to stepup and be the unquestioned leader or we will continue to struggle.

Sorry, continue your celebration John. I’ve been a disgruntled fan since last week. Ugh.

The biggest problem ailing the Pistons was Small Ball.

Step one in the rehabilitation process is admitting you have a problem.

The Pistons admitted it, have been to Small Ball Rehab, and are cured!

“Even though the Pistons’ defensive ranking has climbed to fourth in both scoring and field-goal percentage, he thought the defensive and rebounding tone set by the small lineup in the first quarter put the Pistons in a hole they had to fight the rest of the game.”

-Keith Langlois, True Blue Pistons

FINALLY he saw that.

More from True Blue Pistons (http://www.nba.com/pistons/news/truebluepistons.html):

“Here are the nuts and bolts and ramifications of the move:

# Amir Johnson, who didn’t play in Monday’s win at Memphis, will be the starter alongside Rasheed Wallace most nights. But against really big teams – Curry cited the Lakers, with 7-footers Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol – Kwame Brown will be the starter.

# Hamilton will anchor a second unit that will include Antonio McDyess and Jason Maxiell at the power positions with Will Bynum at point guard.

# It’s not an experiment. “This is for the rest of the season,” Curry said.

All bets are off in the fourth quarter. Many other teams also go small in the fourth quarter in an effort to put their five best players out to finish games. Hamilton will be just as likely to finish games as Iverson or Stuckey or anyone else. And his minutes shouldn’t change much, if at all.

Curry broke the news to Hamilton on Tuesday morning and Hamilton gave every indication he’s ready to embrace the sixth-man role.

“You want to win games and me and Allen both knew (what was being considered),” Hamilton said after Tuesday’s practice. “When they told me I was coming off the bench, it was something MC wanted to do and I said, fine. Bottom line, you want to win games and if that’s the best way that we can go out there and try to win a championship, then I’m all for it.” “

Every thing seems to be good now in Pistons land. I just dont want Coach to forget about his lockdown defender Arron Afflalo. I’d rather see alot more Afflalo than Will Bynum.

Its time to go 9-10 again and start destroying teams!

“# It’s not an experiment. “This is for the rest of the season,” Curry said.”

that’s about the best news i’ve heard in ages. The kwame/Amir switch is ok with me, too.

And thank god Rip took his benching like a man.

Steve January 20th at 9:59 pm

I still think AI would be better off the bench

Opposing starting SGs are gonna eat AI alive on defense

John January 20th at 10:54 pm

AI Defense doesnt matter cause Amir/Max/Kwame will be there to EAT ALL THE SHOTS!!!! BLOCK PARTY!!!

Maxiell explosion.

And the Pistons win by 19.

Mike Watson January 22nd at 1:50 pm

LOL @ John!!!

John January 22nd at 4:57 pm

It’s really that simple Ryan. Big Guys play. We rebound and alter/block shots. Pistons win. (usually by 10+)
