Episode 81: Pistons Mid-Season Review

Tayshaun Prince Pistons All-Star

What’s Going on Pistonscast Posse?

41 games have now been played and our Detroit Pistons are 24-17. If the Pistons were out west, our .585 Winning Percentage would place us 7th but we are in the top heavy Eastern Conference. Boston, Cleveland, and Orlando are running away from the playoff pack but that should be okay with Pistons fans. Let it be remembered that we beat Cleveland once this year as well as Orlando.  The Pistons are still contenders.

Expect a great game next Friday against Boston, where we can finally get that ugly Celtic monkey off our back. Remember you heard it hear first, John W. Davis has predicted the Detroit Pistons “will have the best 2nd half record in the league”.

We want your Pistons Mid-Season Review:

1. Who is your Most Improved Piston?

2. Who is your Defensive Piston of the 1st half of year?

3. Who is your most disappointing Piston at the halfway mark?

4. Who is your Mid-Season MVP?

You know the deal, let us know your opinion via email or the comments section.

Peace,

Pistoncast

1.I am going with Rodney Stuckey, he has made a huge leap from last year and is now one of the leaders on this team in only his 2nd year in the league.

2.Defensive i have two players, Rodney Stuckey and Aaron Afflalo. I am going to give this to AA tho, i believe this is true because every time he is in the game his defensive effort is definately apparent, to bad he didnt play more. OFFENSE SELLS TICKETS, DEFENSE WINS GAMES! :)

3.Rip Hamilton, not just because all of all the mess with going to the bench and his injury but when my boy chauncey left it was his time to be the captain and the leader of this team. I feel like he did not accept rodney stuckey as the new point guard and didnt accept allen iverson because they arent chauncey feeding him the ball at the perfect time off of screens. Rasheed calls rip “Hollywood Hamilton” i definately think he has lived up to that name with all of the drama he has made.

4. My mid-season MVP is Tayshaun Prince. Tayshaun has been the one to fill Chauncey’s shoes. He will never be the captain like Billups was but he’s trying. He almost plays 40 minutes every night, are you serious? Thats crazy. He isnt going off like Stuckey has on some nights with 40 points BUT he is, for the most part pretty consistent. He gets us close to double figures in rebounds on most nights, he finds the open man, and he does still have his “tay” games where he doesnt score like we know he’s capable of, but he is averaging 15 and normally does that or more every night. He definately deserves our mvp award, he is the starter playing the smartest and he plays good defense..

THERES MY ANALYSIS!! :)

nate January 24th at 12:40 am

1. Clearly rodney stuckey (after that would be aflalo)

2.tay

3.sheed or AI. probly sheed cause we depend on him more

4.lebron

i definately said my comments before i listened to your guys episode!!! nice.. tayshaun prince mvp of the team!!!

Matt January 24th at 2:11 am

Great show again! Needed something to wash that taste out of my mouth after that horrid Mavs game…

MIP: Afflalo
D: Tay
Diss: Rip
MVP: Prince again

And glad you guys are enjoying those pictures. Go check out my latest photostream update. Two words, Cotton Johnson.

My best work yet..

John January 24th at 1:15 pm

Pootie Tay should be a 2009 All-Star!

John January 24th at 1:16 pm

Thanks Matt. You definitely have some classic art work that going to be unveiled on Pistonscast.com :) Thanks!

Mike Watson January 24th at 2:20 pm

1. Def Rodney Stuckey

2. I have to say Amir (Minus Dirk). Tay’s been out of position alot the whole season. Amir has been a good job while he’s been the game in my opiopin. He’s been great on the offensive and defensive rebounds. Only thing knocking him is fouls and playing time.

3. Can I do more than one person…Ok.
The whole damn TEAM! No leadership, No heart and no passion. It just seems like these dudes dont care at times. I’ve never seem the PISTONS play team defense like before ever. Yeah Curry’s easy to blame but the man is really in a bad sitution. He’s a first year on a veteran team that’s known to get deep in the playoff’s. The man has enough pressure on him already he knows that just making it to the playoffs isn’t good enough he’s expected to win a championship in his first year coaching. Now that’s tough! Any other first year coach that takes his team to the playoffs is praised. If your gonna be mad at anybody be mad at JOE D. for hiring him.

But the person who I’m maddest at on the court is Sheed. Obvious reasons.

4. Toss up between Stuck and Tay. Both great, both consistant.

John January 24th at 3:39 pm

Mike Watson you can do whatever you want man! GO AHEAD AND CALL OUT THE WHOLE TEAM! LET EM KNOW HOW YOU REALLY FEEL!

Richard January 24th at 5:00 pm

the team as a whole is the biggest disappointment

nate January 24th at 5:53 pm

ohhhh MVP of the pistons. probly stuck..

Steve1 January 24th at 7:15 pm

1. Stuckey. His stats as a starter: 17/5.5/4 (49% shooting, 40% from 3). Who thought he’d be this good so fast?

2. Tayshaun/AA. Tay’s been his regular self on D, but I give him props for having to play out of position. AA’s been real solid as well, especially for a sophomore.

3. Sheed. For sure. He’s shooting a career low FG %, and career low in PPG, career low FTA. Plus he looks like he doesn’t want to be out there on the court. Is his age finally catching up to him? Or his attitude?

And we’re not even talking about his injuries or technical fouls.

Either way, I won’t be sad when he leaves along with his huge expiring contract.

4. McDyess. He’s playing great and grabbing 8 RPG in just 23 MPG. A monster on the glass. And of course, how he gave up so much money to resign w/ the Pistons.

Other choice would be Tayshaun as he’s been so steady no matter what role or position he’s been asked to play this season. Plus he hasn’t missed a game in forever it seems like.

Mike Watson January 26th at 12:36 pm

Michael Curry is a complete idiot for not playing Amir last nite in the 4th quarter!! AHHHHH! The dude changed the whole game when he came in the second half!

TADOne January 26th at 1:43 pm

Ok, i’ll humor myself on this:

1) Most Improved is Stuckey, no questions asked.

2) Tay will continuously be the best defender on the Pistons until he hangs em up or Afflalo gets starter minutes.

3) Most disappointing? Gee, where do I begin? I’m gonna be different and say Michael Curry.

4) MVP? Stuckey again. I’m so glad that Darko basically turned into Rodney. All is forgiven, Joe.

TADOne January 26th at 1:46 pm

Oh, and John: Pistons “will have the best second half record in the league”?!

My man, you will not find a more diehard homer than myself, but I can almost guarantee this won’t happen. I’ll be happy if they can manatin a top-4 standing in the East. We need to get back to defense and rebounding before we get on any winning streaks.

Mike Watson January 26th at 2:04 pm

I dont know TAD John’s a young prophet. You seen the Jan. 21st prediction. So he’s batting 1.000 can’t beat dem odds. If he wit it then im wit it.

But on another note check this out!!!

http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/56818/20090125/is_dumars_looking_to_deal_iverson/

What u think?

Steve1 January 26th at 2:25 pm

I’ll be happy if the Pistons maintain the 5th seed or pass Atlanta for the 4th seed.

That way they won’t have to play Orlando, Cleveland, or Boston in the first round.

John January 26th at 3:11 pm

If they would stick to playing a nice rotation of big guys it would surely happen!

John January 26th at 3:16 pm

TAD dont you remember my Lakers prediction! Do you doubt the great John W Davistradamus?

TADOne January 26th at 5:21 pm

Mike: That link is by a column written by Peter Vecsey. Do I really need to say anything further?

John: You my man and I do hope it happens. Hey, I also picked the Pistons to beat the Lakers. However, that seems like ages ago.

Mike Watson January 26th at 8:05 pm

Nope never heard of em….who is that?

Richard January 26th at 8:17 pm

i hope joe d makes another trade before the deadline i’m sick of this team

John January 26th at 8:23 pm

@TAD its not that I picked them. We both did that. It’s about they way they won. Remember that? It’s on your facebook wall for proof! HAVE FAITH!

John January 26th at 8:24 pm

AWW RICH. COME ON BE NICE! LOL I have a really good trade “opportunity” coming up Episode 82!

Mike January 27th at 2:08 am

1. MIP - Stuckey
2. Def Piston - None of the Above
3. Most Disap Piston - Johnson
4. Mid Season MVP - Prince

John January 27th at 4:14 am

HAHA Mike. Your answer Number 2 is PRICELESS!!!

nate January 28th at 8:41 pm

ahhh i said my comment before the episode too.

1.stuckey
2.tay. i mean, would u rather have tay or aflalo guarding kobe or lebron
3.sheed simply because its disapointing we dont have a dominant big man
4.mvp:right now its AI because he is the best player and leader in points, but by the end of the season i think it will be tay, only because hes a little behind scedule with all that time at the 4 spot.
