Episode 82: Is there hope for the Pistons?

What’s Going Pistonscast Posse?

Rodney Stuckey

Oh where, Oh where is Rodney Stuckey’s aggressiveness?

That’s the question of the day.

Matter of fact, it’s the question of the week.

If we are going to beat Boston, we need the young Thunder Cat, Superstar version of Mr. Stuckey! Rodney, you have already proven that you can practically score at will. When you score 40 points in the NBA, you have ascended to the next level. However the next level means new responsibilities.

*Is Rodney Stuckey ready to dominate every game?……………………

Another question in my mind, is if the “new” 20 point and 10 rebound Rasheed Wallace for real? I sure hope so. He is playing out of position every night but he is so skilled that he gets it done when he wants to.

Its so frustrating but when Sheed is on, all of his past transgressions go out the window. When he is not playing well, they all fly right back into the window and bring our team down.  But you can’t blame Rasheed because we all knew he was this type of player before he came to the Pistons.

Sheed Wallace

*Are we going to get Rasheed……………

or

Roscoe?……………………………………..

These are the question in my mind.

What are yours?

Peace,

John W. Davis

with the current situation there is no hope

TADOne January 29th at 5:49 pm

John: I agree and disagree. While we need Stuckey to play well, we also need for him to facilitate the offense. We won’t beat Boston unless we get our bigs involved and work the offense inside-out. While Rondo’s game is ugly, his defense is pretty good. Stuckey needs to pick and choose his spots.

I think Iverson can get going against Ray Allen. I’m wondering is Kwame will start against Perkins? That is the right move since Sheed knows how to play KG.

If we rebound and play D, we can pull that upset against Boston.

As for Sheed: He plays big against guys he respects and good teams. I expect these next 3 games for him to keep playing well.

RICHARD YOU ARE SUCH THE PESSIMIST! YOU ARE LIKE A YOUNG VERSION OF MYSELF!

John January 29th at 5:59 pm

Richard January 29th at 9:37 pm

I’m only a pessimist when it comes to the pistons, but can you really disagree with me???

John January 30th at 1:32 am

@Rich. Naw you are right. I think we can keep the same team but the DEFENSE needs a lot of “PRACTICE”. LOL :P

Steve1 January 30th at 2:51 am

I agree with TAD.

Stuckey can score but I’d like to see his assists numbers go up, even though he shares a backcourt w/ AI.

It should be a great chance tomorrow night to see the first battle of Stuckey vs Rondo (as starters). Stuck has to be careful since Rondo is arguable the best defensive PG in the league.

And no, I don’t think Stuckey is ready to dominate every game. Or even that he needs to. I mean, he’s only started 30 games in his short NBA career. But he is doing a great job at PG.

As for Sheed, yeah he got 20-10 the past two games but he played 40 minutes each game to get it. No way should he be playing that many minutes. And one game was against Minnesota, not a team exactly known for its defense.

Another thing is that 1/2 of Sheed’s shot attempts are 3’s. Yep.

And if he can get it done when he wants to, why didn’t he want to against Dallas?

Sheed’s inconsistencies on both ends of the floor have me slightly worried for the Pistons’ future. Looking at the roster, they’re pretty much set 1-3 w/ Stuck (22 years old), Rip (almost 31) and Tay (28). And there’s Affalo too.

But look at the bigs: Sheed and Dyess are the best but they’re both almost 34 and will both be Free Agents after this season. Amir is still raw and foul-prone. Kwame is a big body but seemingly nothing more. Maxiell is the lone bright spot, but is he starter material?

Not to mention that none of those guys are centers either. Looking back, the AI trade wasn’t bad in that the Pistons shouldn’t have traded Chauncey, it was that the Pistons needed to get a solid big man in return instead of another All-Star
SG.

Can you imagine a Stuckey/Rip/Tay/Sheed/Chauncey Trade Big Man lineup?

TADOne January 30th at 12:11 pm

John: Hating on you, huh?? LOL. All good my man. Hey, I just call it like I see it. Thing is, you are more optimistic than I am. But hey, i’m in it for the longhaul. I still see one run and extended winning streak in this team.

My man, I need to get up on one of these podcasts with you guys. Sounds like too much fun.

John January 30th at 1:57 pm

Can you imagine a Stuckey/Rip/Tay/Sheed/Chauncey Trade Big Man lineup? That was the lineup we asked for. We didnt get it but yeah that would be it right there.

John January 30th at 1:58 pm

Sounds like a good idea TAD!

Mike Watson January 30th at 2:58 pm

Just listened to the show for the first time this morning…and JOHN W. YESSS!!! AMARE AMARE AMARE.. That is what i’ve been trying to tell people this whole season. As soon as we got A.I. for the cap space! I love Amare he could do sooooo much for this team as far as a dominate big man.

Can u imagine Stuckey and Amare on the same team.

“Stuckey to Amare for alley-oop, Stuckey to Amare for alley-oop,
Stuckey to Amare for alley-oop!”

Sounds kinda like

“Paul to Chandler for the alley-oop,
Paul to Chandler for the alley-oop,
Paul to Chandler for the alley-oop!”

Man just think about that!

John January 30th at 4:05 pm

Mike Watson has the right idea and enthusiasm. I’m telling everyone to get on the Amare band wagon now before its too late!

TADOne January 30th at 4:10 pm

Amare is a dream, but the Suns could get desperate. Who knows?

Richard January 30th at 4:20 pm

i’ll be in the house tonight vs boston lets see if they can match up the celtics

John January 30th at 4:42 pm

Richard why dont you write us an email Report!

Richard January 30th at 11:57 pm

I’ll make a quick report right here:

They played well but not good enough to beat a team like boston, it wouldve been a good performance against a weaker team. The defense was solid (most of the time), Maxiell played great and i love the way he nearly layed out kendrick perkins. Overall it was a good performance even though the pistons never had the lead. This team is nowhere close to championship status, mainly because they are inconsistent not that they don’t have the talent. I’m crossing my fingers for a deadline move by Joe D.

Steve January 31st at 12:58 am

Tough loss. It was tight there with a 5 point deficit in the 4th but they couldn’t pull it out.

A few thoughts:

Curry sucks at calling plays out of timeouts. They usually always fail.

40% FG and 78 total points is not going to beat any team.

Tayshaun w/ just 4 points. Wow.

Stuckey and/or Curry waited too long for him to take over offensively.

Curry’s rotation is a joke. No Bynum or Afflalo at all. 38 minutes for McDyess and Sheed is ridiculous while Maxiell was so key in the 4th but played just 15 minutes. And then Curry takes him out. What?

Just look at the boxscore: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=290130008

Why even bring in Kwame and Herrmann if they’re not going to play? And why did Curry start Amir to play him just 5 minutes?

Darian January 31st at 2:35 pm

i DISLIKE curry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
