Amare on the Trading Block

I honesty think Amar’e could be a good asset to Detroit.

In the last post on the blog, the letter/email stated we needed defense. For someone so offensively inept as Stoudemire (career 21 ppg), he still puts up career averages of nine rebounds and one-half blocks a game (this of course does not account for intangibles, but then again he’s naturally a forward).

That, and the fact those numbers increase come play-off time (whether that is due to a smaller sample size or not, you can decide) makes me think it could be a very good deal (as long as we don’t give up too much young talent!).

I don’t want Amare as a Piston.

He doesn’t play defense and he has too much of a “me” attitude.

Also, I really don’t think the Pistons will be players to get him. Portland and Chicago have much more to deal with then Detroit does.

And I really don’t think Phoenix would go for AI, Walter Herrmann, Walter Sharpe and/or draft pick(s) for Amare and Grant Hill. Sure, they get AI’s expiring contract, but Herrmann and Sharpe? Neither of them even get off Detroit’s bench. If the Suns trade him, they’re going to want like a LaMarcus Aldridge, a Tyrus Thomas, a Ben Gordon, not Sharpe and Herrmann.

Don’t underestimate the ineptness of Steve Kerr. He is bound to give Amare away for nothing. I’m sure Steve Kerr won’t get full Amare value anyway because team’s know that Amare is going to leave as a free agent anyway!

DEFENSE IS AN ISSUE. I think it has a lot to do with motivation and feeling comfortable with his overall level of athleticism because he had that Oden type knee injury about 4 years ago.

True about Kerr.

The Suns as a whole have made some pretty bad basketball decisions over the years (giving away Rondo and Rudy Fernandez, giving away Kurt Thomas, resigning Diaw, trading for Shaq), so it wouldn’t surprise me to see them give Amare away.

But if they’re really asking for all that, Detroit’s assets just aren’t good enough.

The Suns are cheap and inept. Amare is a starting All-Star forward. Why would Phoenix even but him on the block? That’s how you know that organization is dumb. If I was Phoenix I would commit and focus around Amare for the next 6-7 years.

And John U know more than me. But I know I wouldn’t mind having Amare in that frontcourt with us. We can get Defense from Maxiell, Amir, and Dyess. Amare will put average more points in the paint by himself than all three of them put together.

Ben Wallace was our Defense, Sheed was our offense.

I think Amare is an underrated Defender. Just because we dont see him out there throwing shots like Dwight Howard doesnt mean that he cant guard other players in the NBA.

I go back to the series against San Antonio he dominated Tim Duncan. It’s about team defense. Overall Sheed is a better defender but he is only getting older and going downhill and Amare still has major upside.

I say you go with that philosophy and try to put as many young agile players around Rodney Stuckey as possible. If we ever can get two mobile bigs out there consistently with Stuckey, we will be playing to our strength.

trade sheed and AI for amare this would give us an identity can you imagine stuckey, rip, prince, and amare in the open court. sheed is the last one down the court every possession.

the pistons need rebounding and sheeds not going to do that for us out on the perimeter. amare will give us that and an actual post presence in the paint

Well Erick you cant trade both because thats 33 million in salary to Amare’s 12 million ish. You have to pick one? Which one would you rather trade?

*Maybe we can add a third team say Toronto and give them AI and get Chris Bosh as well! HAHA That would be the day!
