Iverson: “I’d rather retire…”
Looking into the future, Detroit Pistons guard Allen Iverson would rather retire than be a full-time reserve.
“I’m in a position now that I’ve never been in my whole life,” Iverson said. “It’s harder than I thought it would be. With the back injury, I have to sit out at the start, then go in, then sit again. It’s tough to really get going. I take my hat off to the guys who can come off the bench and be effective. It’s tough for me. I’m struggling with it.”
Iverson said he would not accept being a reserve next season.
“I’d rather retire before I do this again,” Iverson said.
“I can’t be effective playing this way. I’m not used to it. It’s tough for me both mentally and physically. If I’m able to go out there, I should be able to get it done and I can’t right now. It’s my fault. I have to be able to overcome the adversity and do what I have to do. I just have to find a way to get it done. Not being 100 percent makes it harder and you can see that I’m not 100 percent.

My reaction is simple. At least he told us the truth.
The truth hurts but at least he is keeping it real. But you know what, just like the Chappelle Show, sometimes keeping it real goes wrong!
AI we all knew how you felt before you opened your mouth. Your actions spoke much louder.
At least he partially acknowledged his faults:
“It’s my fault. I have to be able to overcome the adversity and do what I have to do. I just have to find a way to get it done. Not being 100 percent makes it harder and you can see that I’m not 100 percent.”

*Check out what Matt Watson of DBB had to say on the subject.
*Also, Coach Curry likes Sheed off the bench. (ME TOO!)

When I first heard about him saying this BS I was furious. Being real or not, you don’t talk like this a few weeks from the playoffs. There’s a time when you should speak your mind and this isn’t it. He needs to keep his mouth shut and stop complaining about sitting down in a friggen chair. I didn’t want him on this team to begin with, and while we still need him for the playoffs, I’m getting fed up with this cat. He can go ahead and clean out his locker and head to where ever his lives and stay there.

@Dre TELL HIM HOW YOU REALLY FEEL!

The worst part about this is that Curry dodges the blame, again. AI should just keep quiet, and keep reminding himself that he gets to go where ever he wants next season. Him venting like this is just giving people a reason to blame him even more.

Iverson probably shouldn’t complain about his PT when he’s shooting 1-8.
AI as a starting guard was averaging 18 ppg, 5 asp, 41.9 FG%.
I kind of can’t wait until he’s gone at this point. He’s caused more off court drama than anything else.
What does the future hold for Iverson? Who’s going to pay him this summer? He’s either going to have to take a huge pay cut to play for a contender, or get a semi-large deal to play for a bottom dweller.
Seriously, who could you see AI playing for next season?

I think someone will pick him up just because of what he did last season. Even with Carmelo he was scoring quite a bit. Maybe 25, 26ppg?
Does anyone think maybe Joe D would try to trade Allen before his contract expires this offseason. Maybe try a trade with Toronto for Bosh. Since this draft isn’t that deep, we could trade our first round draft pick also.
Dre April 3rd at 12:58 pm
@Steve I wouldn’t be the least surprised if he took a huge paycut and went to Boston.

he’ll be in san antonio next year

Okay now i’m convinced AI will never win a ring. It’s sad really after all he’s done for the game, but you can’t win with a 5′10 shooting guard who chucks and shoots 40%. I would have said the only way he’d get a championship is by being a 12th man on the Lakers or something, but he’s obviously not willing to do that.

@Dre I like that AI to Toronto trade. I was pushing that before that the trade deadline!

I think AI should go to Europe and make 15 mil a year…
Pistonscast · Joe D says: AI to Miss the Rest of Season April 3rd at 5:13 pm
[...] this is what I’m talking about. The truth shall set you free! AI will miss the last two weeks. Hopefully Joe D can work some magic on AI’s head (and [...]

@Dre Unfortunately it’s too late to trade AI. But I would have gone for that trade in a heartbeat.
But I could see AI going to Europe. He’s an aging superstar, big name, could be “The Man.” It’s perfect.

@ Steve I believe Dre is refering to a sign and trade with Toronto. Check out the new post Steve!
