Motown String Music’s Morning Shootaround
This is always a good read.
Check out our boy B. Packey over at Motown String Music.
One of my favorites parts of the website is his Morning Shootaround.
Its essentially a round up of all things Pistons.
Here are some major points to note from today’s Morning Shootaround:
It has been a busy couple days, full of rumors and trades. Pistons Nation wonders if Joe Dumars should have considered the Celtics alleged offer a little more. I didn’t like it when I first heard about it and I don’t really like it much more now, but Kelly Dwyer of Yahoo! doesn’t know what the hell Joe Dumars was thinking rejecting the trade.
Life on Dumars writes a letter to Amir Johnson touching on Amir’s time with the Pistons and his future. Personally, I don’t think Amir was used fairly during his stint with Detroit. I think a fresh start will do him well. That being said, if he was going to continue to get minimal minutes, he definitely was not worth the $3.6 million he was set to make this season.
Michael Rosenberg of The Free Press has a message for Joe Dumars: Spend now, Pistons! Don’t wait until next year. Some people think Dumars is clearing all this cap space to wait for the esteemed 2010 free agent class. Dumars has been on record as saying he intends to spend the Pistons’ cap space this off-season, and it makes complete sense. The worst case scenario is the Pistons’ offers get turned down this off-season and have a ton of money to dangle in front of guys like Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, and that other guy next off-season. However, the chances of the Pistons winning a bidding war for one of those three are slim and it’d be a shame to get to that point and lose out on all these free agents. I’m a big supporter of the “get better now” campaign.
Peace,

I’m still upset that Joe couldn’t have got anything better than cap space for Amir. At the very least, he could have waited until another Marcus Camby/Pau Gasol salary dump came up. Look at the steal the Spurs got; can you imagine how much better this team would have been with Richard Jefferson bombing 3s and Stuckey slashing?
John W. Davis June 25th at 2:57 pm
Im pissed off at this trade! New Episode 115 is here!
Ali June 25th at 4:46 pm
Jennings seems to be slipping in the draft, seems like a god given gift if you ask me. Last time I checked, short fast point guard+athletic combo guard=foundation for championship (granted I have no idea if Jennings will be half the player Isiah was).
Richard June 25th at 5:49 pm
contending has gotten considerably more difficult now that shaq is a cav and vinsanity is moving to orlando. how are we gonna compete with that!!!!!!!!!
Richard June 25th at 5:58 pm
and with carter in orlando that means that turkoglu can’t resign there so…
Ali June 25th at 8:35 pm
that’s not true, Orlando’s going over the cap to get him
I personally think that was a dumb move on Orlando’s part. Unless if they win next year, it’ll haunt them because Lee was looking like he was going to be a very good shooting guard and Carter is clearly on the decline
Ali June 25th at 8:35 pm
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOZ!
Stupid Milwaukee took Jennings
Ali June 25th at 8:51 pm
wtf? Tyler Hansbrough over Holiday for a team with no point guard but has a 7 footer?
Ali June 25th at 9:03 pm
Man this is getting confusing, why take Daye over Holiday or Mulliens? We needed people with size, not another Tayshaun
John W. Davis June 25th at 9:20 pm
@ Ali U stop that right now anything is better than Mullens!
Ali June 25th at 9:35 pm
fine, but explain why Daye is a better option than Holiday when he makes Tayshaun look muscular
Ali June 25th at 10:39 pm
I tell you this is a strange night, first Psycho T taken in the lottery and now NY trades for….Darko?
Richard June 25th at 11:06 pm
Daye is good cause if he turns into another Tay we can pretty much trade Tay but still have his style of play in daye
Ali June 25th at 11:17 pm
But how do you guard guys like Pierce or Granger, let alone lebron with Daye? I’m concerned he’s another Adam Morrison.
I really, really, really like the second round picks though. This has to be by far Dumar’s best second round in years. My only gripe is that milwaukee screwed up my plans yet again and took Jodie Meeks. I wanted some more pure shooters, but I’m extremely happy with Budinger and Summers.
Ohh and this proves my theory that gregg popovich has to be the best GM/Scout/Coach in the league. You just don’t see other teams getting guys quality like Parker, Ginobli or even Blaire this late in drafts
Richard June 25th at 11:20 pm
But daye is a PF, which means he won’t be gaurding any of those guys
John W. Davis June 25th at 11:23 pm
I cant explain Daye over Holiday.
I guess Joe D loves Small Forwards now cause he just drafted 4 of them!
John W. Davis June 25th at 11:24 pm
@Richard Daye has to be a SF in the NBA…
Too skinny for the post!
Ali June 25th at 11:32 pm
And don’t forget about Sharpe or my man D. Washington (I mean seriously, he jumped over a guy twice in one game!).
But once again, I REALLY like the second round. I would have much rather had Holiday over Daye, but he picked up 2 steals, possibly 3 depending on how the Swede turns out.
Ali June 25th at 11:48 pm
And of course, Dumars has to go and trade Budinger for another pick. As much as I like Bundinger, I guess this move actually makes sense considering how many small forwards the team has right now
Astrid June 26th at 7:53 am
I want Mister Fourth Quarter!
Ali June 26th at 9:32 am
Rumors are the Turk wants $10 million a year, not sure he’s worth that money when he’s likely to be on the decline next year.
This is why I’m so frustrated with this free agency, everyone seems either to be injury prone or overpaid
Ali June 26th at 11:13 am
On the brightside, even though I’m still mad at milwaukee for taking Jennings, it does mean they expect to lose Sessions. Why else take him over Earl Clark when they just lost their starting small forward?
I think Sessions would definitely have a much bigger impact on the pistons than Gordon would, he’s a true point guard and an assist monster. Not to mention he’s extremely athletic.
I wonder what happens with Rip if that happens? Does he get traded or does Stuckey go back to the bench?
Astrid June 26th at 12:41 pm
I dunno where you pluck these ideas up Ali.
Stuck’ is the future!
Astrid June 26th at 12:41 pm
Someone has to help me with this…
Detrooooooooooooooit~
Ali June 26th at 2:56 pm
Astrid you must be exceedingly blind to the world to claim I’m the first person to bring this up. The idea of another point guard, including Sessions, has been brought up here for about a month or so.
All I’m saying is I’d rather have Ramon sessions than Ben Gordon. Scoring isn’t indicative of impact, a good example of this is Ariza.
Astrid, I’m fine if you have a valid argument against my ideas; I appreciate the commentary. But don’t call me an idiot if you don’t have your facts straight.
Astrid June 26th at 3:49 pm
Uhm.. Calm down.
I never called you an idiot.
“I dunno where you pluck these ideas up Ali.
Stuck’ is the future!”
Stuckey is a starter, that’s all it meant. Don’t get so defensive. It’s a discussion, not debate.
Ali June 26th at 4:22 pm
You have to admit, you insinuated that the Sessions thing was a brash idea.
As for Stuckey, I’m not quite sure where his future will take him. At least not under Curry anyways.
Richard June 26th at 6:58 pm
Why would we ever spend our cap space on another PG when our biggest building block is a PG/SG?
One-Take Davis June 27th at 1:12 am
I vote for Sessions!
Astrid June 27th at 5:39 am
Richard sees my point.
I apologize for how you took what I said Ali, but I mean it casually.
I’m happy with Stuckey as the starting point guard. I think we need a 2-guard who can get his own scoring so Stuckey doesn’t feel so much pressure trying to work within the old Pistons system which doesn’t work anymore.
Richard June 27th at 4:01 pm
are there any pistons fans that still believe? every where i go all i see is people complaining about the team and how bad the draft was
Astrid June 27th at 7:07 pm
Believe in what Richard?
Sorry to be a downer. Our coach is inexperienced and makes mistakes, our line-up is hardly viable.
I’m already set for this team to rebuild ready for a strong run ‘10. Hopefully we can have an ‘adequate’ season this year and gets some development from Stuckey, Afflalo et cetera.
My first question wasn’t rhetorical, I apologize if it seemed so. What could we believe in? :]
Richard June 28th at 2:12 pm
believe in joe; the offseason. am i the only one that enjoys watching the pistons good or bad?
John W. Davis June 28th at 7:44 pm
@ Richard The Pistons have the tools and the ability to be good. Thats why we get pissed when they are bad.
