I’d prefer Gordon starting and I agree with the point in the show. Rip should be gone… but if conditionally Rip is here, he should start.

Rip doesn’t get much credit and respect without a good point’, give ‘em to the hornets for Okafor? -Rhetorical. I wish that would go though.

Brian August 13th at 5:07 pm

lets hope big ben brings back the great D and hustle that Detroit had in 2004

Dre August 13th at 5:36 pm

I still believe that Rip should start. I said that when Iverson was here, and Ben G. is no exception. Rip knows the offense, Rip better chemistry with the others (Suckey and Tay), and Rip doesn’t provide mis-matches as far as height is concerned.

Ben Wallace, I really have nothing great to say about him at the moment. Sure, I would’ve went for the money too, I’m not hatin’ on him for that. But I do feel that Ben Wallace is an overrated defender and he was exposed when he went to Chicago. IMO he wasn’t that great of a one-on-one defender. He made his living off of help defense. Rasheed was the better defender on that team.

Oh yeah, waste of money bringing him back. If he wanted to retire as a Piston, he should’ve stayed here.

Mike Watson August 13th at 6:18 pm

Happy Birthday John W.!

Astrid August 13th at 7:08 pm

Happy belated Birthday Mister Davis! :)

We love you. ;D

Ryan (Young R) August 15th at 6:24 am

@Dre

You can’t really waste money when the veterans’ minimum doesn’t count against the cap (barring the roster holding spot).

While I wanted him to stay and I’m not defending his decision to leave the organization, I’ve heard that it wasn’t all about the money. It was about the Bulls making him feel like the best player in the world. The Bulls made him feel like he mattered that summer; like he was the proverbial “man.”

@Pistonscast

I am ready to dunk over John W. Davis! :-)

Mike Watson August 15th at 8:23 am

Well sunday at 8 is a time I cant do soooo lemme kno how it goes

Mike Watson August 15th at 9:06 am

And I been keeping quit on this issue but having Rip and Ben sounds like a pretty good sitution to have. A lot of other teams would love to be in the position to have two dominant SG’s on their team. It’s a good problem if u ask me. John Kueter is a so called offensive guru so he’ll find a way to make it work. Look at what he did with Delonte West and Mo Williams being on the court at the same time.

Deven aka (Pimp Scwalla) August 15th at 12:28 pm

Can someone please tell me why I hate Delonte West?

Mike, don’t forget, you can still call and listen from your phone for a bit and even give a quick take.

Oh and young “R”, I know John won’t just sit back and let you talk shhhmack to him like that.

Brian August 15th at 1:04 pm

if u guys play u hav to videotape it. cuz i wanna watch it. srry young “R” but im cheerin for J-Dub and Deven.

Astrid August 15th at 1:39 pm

I know why… because of his BAD hairstyle, right right?

No, er. Maybe because he looks like a normal guy. He isn’t built well but still plays good. WHO KNOWS.

Ryan (Young R) August 15th at 2:50 pm

Maybe it’s because he goes to fast food restaurants, looks and sounds like he’s high when he does, and says a bunch of incoherent things on video tape that gets uploaded to YouTube.

@Deven

In the words of the song “Basketball Jones,”

Watch me hookshot with my eyebrow!

Yeah, I could dunk it with my nose!

Deven aka (Pimp Scwalla) August 16th at 11:45 am

Yes sir Brian it will be taped!

That’s all true “R” but I think a hate him as a player.

How can you suck so bad when you’re playing next to the best player in the world and he wants nothing more than to give you the ball.

The only word I can think of to describe him is “OKAY”. No part of his game sticks out. He’s not a great shooter, passer, scorer, or defender(above average defender)–he’s just “OKAY” at everything.

Don’t forget Rajon Rondo took his spot at Boston back when Rondo was considered a weakness in the line-up.

If asked what do I think about Delonte West, I would just say, “He’s okay”

Astrid August 16th at 5:39 pm

Nothing wrong with being average…

You wanna take his 2-guard spot in Cleveland?

Deven aka (Pimp Scwalla) August 17th at 12:27 pm

Well actually Atsrid I think there is something wrong with average when you can do much better.

Also, Delonte doesn’t have a 2-guard spot in Cleveland. He’s only warming the seat until a real one comes along.

I read somewhere that he should be on the NBA’s most underrated team.

Do you agree with that Astridamus?

Astridamus? August 18th at 7:11 pm

Hrm, I’m not sure if he can do much better. I agree that he’s just warming the seat until an upgrade comes but maybe that’s already true with Anthony Parker there unless West has potential.

Most underrated… if anything he *LOOKS* overrated. Crazy McLebron makes everybody look better, but he’s still good. He has versatility (plays point when Mo’ is out), he plays the minutes, he gives you defense, he gives you heart (we want players like that in D’ right now) - he shoots 40% from the perimeter and can drive pretty efficiently (’specially for his size).

Even making it to the NBA and getting starter minutes means you’ve got somethin’, right?

It’s nice to see someone ‘work’ on a team too. Granted, not as much as Lebron (as much as LB makes it look easy). In the playoffs he played 42 minutes a game and 45 during the Orlando season (whilst guarding Turkoglu often) - don’t tell me you wouldn’t like someone who gives that effort. His shooting did go downhill but if I had to run around for that length with high-class athletes (if I was so lucky) I’d be hoisting airballs constantly (and I’m a fit person).

Speaking of which, I don’t like the way people judge NBA players. I’ve yet to do it as it’s harsh. They all got there for a reason and I know a lot of you would love to play basketball professional (the sport we so adore - much less the greatest league in the World).

I got a little Ali on ya. :>

ali August 18th at 7:45 pm

Happy birthday John! I just got back from marching camp yesterday - pretty sweet to hear the Tigers got that needed power lefty.

I personally think Rip should start, but you guys already knew that. Look at it this way: Joe Dumars was always the starter even though the microwave was arguably the better scorer. As a result johnson would often finish games over Dumars.

You want your best defender out on the court at the beginning because he’ll be out guarding the Wades, Bryants and Roys. There’s no way Ben Gordon has a shot at keeping Kobe below 30 if Ray Allen (who takes 81% of shots from the perimeter) blows up for 51 on him.

This way, when Gordon comes out, he’s going up against most other teams scrubs. In other words, he can reek a lot of havoc in a short span of time by just having Bynum force feed him the ball. And before you guys say that Gordon can guard point guards… NO HE CAN’T. 1 guards had an effective field goal percentages of 57% and massive PERs so switching his defensive assignments with Stuckey flat out would not work.

I really like the idea of having Daye, Gordon, Bynum, Wilcox and Maxiell off the bench. That’s a really deep line up, possibly the second best bench behind Boston because Denver lost Klieza and Cleveland failed to trade szczerbiak.

This is the most efficient way to take advantage of your players’ strengths. This will bolster the starters’ defense, which would be just atrocious having gordon and villanueva out together. But more importantly the bench will be extremely explosive. What this means is that opposing teams will have to play their best defenders longer (which means starters in most cases) and that will wear them down.

So short of teams like Boston, the pistons will have a major edge in the fourth quarter, having their fresh starters go up against worn down defenders.

ali August 18th at 7:55 pm

for those too lazy to read, sparknotes:

rip starts

Gordon does a worse job guarding point guards than shooting guards, so can’t switch with stuckey on defense

BG can reek more havoc going up against crappy defenders

pistons will have arguably second deepest bench, no more zoo crew

e=mc hammer, which means opposing teams have to play their starters much longer than they want to

big advantage in 4th quarter because our starters will be rested going up against worn down defenders

Deven aka (Pimp Scwalla) August 18th at 8:09 pm

LOLOLOLOLOLO!!!!

Funny stuff Ali. I agree with errrrthang except for Vinnie finishing over Joe-D. You don’t make the hall of fame unless you can finish.

E=mc Hammer!! HA!

Mike Watson August 19th at 11:36 am

Now see Ali you covered alotta good and relevent points that actually made sense in just that short paragraph the second time. GOOD JOB!

Deven aka (Pimp Scwalla) August 19th at 7:03 pm

Oh now…now Astridamus. No one’s Judging NBA players personally—just as basketball players.

If I was judging personally, I’d be the first to acknowledge how tough the odds are for making it to that level.

You just might have the best name on here now!!!!

Astridamus (Yep, I'm keeping it) August 20th at 9:46 am

Deven aka (Pimp Scwalla)

Can someone please tell me why I hate Delonte West?

I just thought your choice of words were quite harsh.

But even so, I think I made good points in his favor. God knows how tired I am of players with no effort.

John W. Davis August 20th at 11:25 am

@Astridamus Your new name is One-Take Worthy!

Deven aka (Pimp Scwalla) August 20th at 12:33 pm

Oh now it’s Attorney Astridamus!

Citing evidence against yours truly.

So we’re clear, I hate his game with a passion!!! But i’m sure I’d love him as person.

Better?

Hung Back of... August 20th at 4:56 pm

Well, doesn’t it become personal even with his game?

It’s his passion, his hobby, his job.

It’s not like I’m angry or anything, just debating. :>

Surely he has ‘game’ (which you can’t deny me on, I gave such a case ;P) even if you don’t like it.

He takes it harder to the rim than cotton-socks Amir (admittingly not hard), but in comparison to some people we had on our roster last year I’d gladly take West with his jew-fro and everything. S’all good. :D

Hunch Back of... August 20th at 4:57 pm

That’d be, hunch back. My bad.

TADOne August 20th at 5:25 pm

Sunday at 8? Hmmm, I think I can listen AND call in to that live show.

One-Take Davis August 21st at 8:02 am

TAD ONE IS IN THE BUILDING!!!

Who else is coming to live show?

Brian August 21st at 11:21 am

i’ll b listening.

NBA Kays August 22nd at 3:36 am

Dang, me and Young R getting called out!

Astrid August 22nd at 3:49 am

I’ll be listening if I can, but um, great quote for the show:

“He’s just a seven footer, he can’t help it!”. :D

J-Smoove August 22nd at 9:55 am

Hey D, I’ll be listening in as well. And before everyone jumps on the new guy, and be like “Who the heck is this fool?!” I’ll introduce myself. My name is Jessie, (although I prefer “J-Smoove” better. LOL.) I’m 19, I was born in Detroit, but I’ve been living here in Covington, TN for 14 years. I always wanted to be Piston when I grew up but I gave up hope after I tried out for my high school team every year, just to be told that I was too short/small. :’-( I’m 5′9/150 lbs. and my baby brother is almost 17 yrs. old, 6′3/225 lbs. and the star center for his high school team so he rubs it in my face all the time. But anyway, I’m halfway through my Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, and afterward, plan on getting my Bachelor’s in Theatre Arts (Acting) and Minor in Broadcasting. (Just like J & D!) And by the way, I love the show. I’ve been listening in since 7/22/09, Episode 123 and I’ve been hooked ever since. Also, I look foward to being involved in the discussions and everything, and no, I won’t always type this much, and I’ll probably never type this much again and I apologize, but I didn’t want to be rude and just pop up and jump in without saying something. Thanks for reading.

One-Take Davis August 23rd at 4:20 am

One-Take(damus) will be there live in full effect!

Honestly, I’m excited about the show because I’m expecting alot of calls!

Dont disappoint me!

Oh yeah anyone who is free and doesn’t listen to the show is a “damus”

(say the word really slow)

LOL :)

John W. Davis August 23rd at 8:18 pm

Live show is going down!

Ryan (Young R) August 23rd at 10:07 pm

Darn it, I fell asleep before the show came on! I really wanted to listen and call in today!

Astrid August 24th at 4:38 am

I’m really sorry guys! I’m on a different timezone and I have to go to bed reaaaal early recently (I has insomnia). I don’t want my life turning upside down.

I hope it’s gonna be uploaded on the site too!

Deven aka (Pimp Scwalla) August 24th at 8:55 am

Don’t worry guys it will be uploaded on the site.

It will be a full hour next week. 30 mins goes by too fast!!!

AstriDamn Girl August 24th at 9:35 am

Name is just for fun, won’t happen again.

An hour sounds like a good idea, by the time people get there and it’s all ready to go the discussion hardly starts before it’s over.

Sorry once again for missing yesterday.

John W. Davis August 30th at 9:15 pm

What’s Up J-Smoove where you at!

J-Smoove August 30th at 10:19 pm

I’m right here listening. LOL.
