First off where are my pistonscast eps? If we ever needed them right now would be the time.

Secondly I am going to step out on a limb and say that Rip & Tay being hurt may be the difference between us being true contenders or barely making the playoffs. It's forced our bench to step into their own and surprisingly quite well. I won't even start with the defensive effect of the remixed Big Ben on the youngins but provided we gel at the right time we might be a lot more effective with a well rounded and confident bench.
Let's get the podcast going guys!

So far I've been impressed by:

1) Ben Gordon. I admit I wasn't a fan of his and didn't like the signing, but it is hard to argue with his results so far.

2) Big Ben! He apparently located the locker that had his game locked up in it since he left Auburn Hills.

3) The defense. Before the team gave up 110 to the Raptors, they were 2nd in the league in scoring defense behind Boston. Very impressed.

4) Will Bynum. "The Thrill" nickname he has is very deserved.

5) His numbers don't stand out, but his hustle so far has stood out.

Things that haven't impressed me:

1) Charlie Villanueva. I can see why Milwaukee let him walk. He needs to learn intensity from Ben.

2) Chris Wilcox. Career Journeyman.

3) Rotations. I know we have had injuries, but Kuester needs to reintroduce himself to Jason Maxiell and Austin Daye.

4) Rodney Stuckey. While Rodney hasn't played bad, i'm frustrated knowing that he has so much more to offer.

5) Halftime adjustments. Has anyone noticed how much we are getting outscored in the 3rd quarter by?

Ok I really have to give some serious props to Will Bynum. You must have a sack the size of AI's ego to not only continue playing with a bleeding eye, but get Dwight Howard to foul you, so that he's out of the game.

I still think he's holding onto the ball too much, but at least he's making his buckets now. Epic game.

ohh and shout out to my man Kwame, great job flopping

On a side note, is Stuckey seriously out of shape? This is third game in a row where his jumper has looked flat in the third quarter, but great in the first half.

At least through the first half of the orlando game, this is a clear example of why I think Stuck deserves to start. He's done a much better job of rotating the ball and is hitting his jumpers. Bynum looks like he's pressing too hard and has missed several layups because he basically ran straight into a crowd. Not to mention he's become a black hole this year: teammates insert basketball, nothing comes back to teammates.

Don't get me wrong, Rodney used to do the samething, but his jumpers has helped open the lane for him. Just look at how much space defenders give Will, they dare him to shoot because they know he can run straight past them. So far he's missed all of his jumpers.

Also Detroit was leading by 9 before Bynum came in, they're behind by 3 now. The foul on the steal at the end of the first is exactly what I'm talking about. He tries too much to get steals and often lets his man beat him as a result or gets a cheap foul.

Reason for this post is that I think people harping on Rodney too much and overhyping Will. Will has always been a shoot first guard, that's why he went undrafted and ended up in Israel. Now there's a time and place for everything. With his contract and one on one ability, he could become an amazing trading chip for an all star big. Tay+Bynum could get say Chris Kaman and a draft pick. Win for both teams, they get defense plus guard depth, pistons get possible all star (and they already have Camby and Griffin to take his minutes) on top of a potential very high second round pick.

Man what's with all the hate on Stuckey's defense. People are always making it a bigger issue than it is. The pistons have always had much better defensive numbers with Stuckey on the court that Bynum this season (including pre-season). Bynum plays defense like Chris Paul and AI, they all gamble way too much on steals instead of just staying in front of their man. While CP3 and AI get away with cheap fouls, Bynum doesn't get any special treatment, and ends up with cheap fouls.

Also why did we sign Chris Wilcox over Hakim Warrick? They've got the same contract and we all know who changed the game for milwaukee. They would have been down by 20 at the half if it wasn't for him, and Jennings sealed the deal.

As for the 2 losses, they were disappointing, but I'm okay with them. They played good defense in both games for the most part. Even with that monster third quarter, the Bucks shot only 41% in the game. They won because of turnovers and offensive rebounds. Those are both easily fixable with the current lineup.

I said it before and I'll say it again: Rip is a way underrated passer. I got flamed for it last time, but just look at the ball movement without him the line-up. I guaransheed that when he returns the pistons will put 100 points on the board.

Definitely right about Ben Gordon he is an offensive force and Ben Wallace is once again a beast on the Defensive end. I like that Ben Gordon and Rip were able to play together in the first game and still get there points. If the leaders on this team, Coach Kuester included, step up and put these younger guys into place this team has a chance to be special.

1.) When the other team's getting hot and going on a run, I have a word of advise for Kuester: Call a timeout!!!

Brandon Jennings was lighting it up tonight, and Coach could've called a timeout to try to settle things down before the big run started in the third. Instead, he let them tack on the points.

2.) Kwame Brown is getting better, but it's the little things that make me want to slap him upside the head. Three in the key when the game's on the line? Offensive foul when you're down five? Come on, Kwame!

3.) The Bens have been the best players for the Pistons on the floor in my eyes. Ben Gordon on the offensive spectrum, and Wallace on defense.

4.) Charlie V needs to focus on the next possession when he misses a shot or something doesn't go right. He seems to get down when he doesn't do something right. I heard the announcers say that he gave Ben Wallace a half-hearted five when he was headed to the bench, and Ben let him know it. I'm glad Ben's being that leader and isn't afraid to let the guys know; hey, this is a team game. You can't dwell on something you did wrong; focus on helping the team do something right.

5.) Losing to two of the worst teams in the league twice in a row? These two losses really hurt...

@ John
what are your observations on Charlie Villanueva? I think he is just a little nervous and is trying to hard to show that he belongs on this team... we still need some inside presents on offense because so far are backcourt have been caring us in scoring and the few times we do score inside is from are guards penatration and Ben Gordon playing is like a monster he is also trying to play defense which is great.
