Detroit Pistons 2011 Draft Prospects

by John W. Davis - posted Saturday, June 18th, 2011

So we earned the number 8 position in the 2011 NBA Draft.

Obviously, Pistons fans are not excited about back to back trips to the lottery since the Grant Hill era.

Last year, Greg Monroe was the most consistent rookie big man in the league.

This year, the Pistons have a shot to get another impact player.

Some say we’re bound to get either Kawhi Leonard or Kemba Walker.

While either one of those players, would be fine additions to the Pistons, we need to draft on upside.

Will Kemba Walker be better than Jameer Nelson?

How about Kawhi Leonard… He looks like a baby Matrix aka Shawn Marion lite.

But the only way Leonard is effective is with playing time.

Does that mean we give up on Kevin Durant lite, aka Austin Daye.

I’m not sure I have the answers but I know at number 8, Bismack Biyombo probably has the highest ceiling.

If he’s anything like Serge Ibaka, I think he would make a fine addition to the Pistons.

But some people say he’ll be better than Ibaka.

They liken him to a young Ben Wallace.

With an old Ben Wallace still signed up to play for the Pistons, drafting Biyombo sounds great, because Ben Wa Wa can finally mentor a player than can live up to his expectations.

Biyombo has the 6′9 243 pound frame to emulate Big Ben.

For example, against other 18-year-old’s at the Nike Hoop Summit, he dominated with a 12 point, 11 rebound, and 10 block, yes 10 block performance.

I’m not pushing aside Jonas Valanciunas or Jan Vesely, but if NBA General Managers could do it all over again, I would bet money Ben Wallace would be a lottery pick.

Honestly, for the right team, (the Pistons) he would have been the number one pick.

I have a friend who’s always talking about being modeled by a potential employer.

She says sometimes it better to be a raw applicant (player), and show your prospective employer (NBA team) that you can be molded into the type of employee (player), they want you to be.

I agree with her, and if you agree with me as well, Joe D, please consider drafting Bismack Biyombo aka B-Smack… well unless Enes Kanter drops to number 8 like Greg Monroe dropped to number 7 last year.

Who do you think the Pistons should draft?

Give me your scenarios in the comment section.

Peace,

John W.

Shaking My Head At The Pistons!

by John W. Davis - posted Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

Greg Monroe tweeted it best, “smh#.”

That simple texting phrase sums up how I feel about the Pistons Protest.

No one in the world can convince me only 6 players played against Philly for no good reason.

I don’t buy sizzle, I sell it.

Blame Rip, all of the other veterans and Joe D.

We all know Coach Kuester is not the right guy for this job.

However, you must respect him because he is the Head Coach.

No excuses.

We will see how the rest of this year turns out but I’m looking forward to getting lucky in the Lottery!

My 2011 Draft Wish List:

1. Jared Sullinger
2. Kyrie Irving
3. Perry Jones

Other than that, who cares about this draft or these boycotting Pistons!

Detroit News: Rip Hamilton Has Become Distraction

by John W. Davis - posted Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

Richard Hamilton has become a distraction for the Pistons, according to a team source.

He missed Sunday’s game and complaints about his diminished role have led some in the organization to wonder if Hamilton has quit on the Pistons.

“He quit on us,” one team source said. Another team source said Hamilton is acting out of emotion and should adjust.

“If I need to have a long talk with him, I will,” team president Joe Dumars said Monday on WDFN.

“I’ll see how Rip is doing tomorrow when he gets in here. Rip’s been good for me.”

——————-

Ummm… Richard Hamilton had already been a distraction.

I’m glad the Detroit News has confirmed this through team sources but die-hard Pistons fans (even super Rip fan Mike W.) already knew this.

I can’t believe that it has come to Rip having an “upset stomach” and missing the New Orleans Hornets game for people to finally question his heart.

Seriously, I just don’t get the infatuation with Rip.

I understand he was a key piece of our championship run but the day Chauncey was traded, the day Lebron James torched the Pistons for 48 points — including his team’s final 25 and 29 of its final 30, the Pistons dynasty was over.

It was just a matter of time a guy like Rip would quit.

I’ve said and type it numerous time, we need to trade Rip at all cost.

I’LL TAKE A SECOND ROUND PICK!

Just give my minutes for Gordon, McGrady, and Daye and some cap relief.

Maybe we don’t even need the cap relief…

The Detroit Pistons Won A Game!

by John W. Davis - posted Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

Go Coach John Kuester for finally considering setting a rotation!

Remember this is not elementary school, every player does not have to play in every game.

I still don’t like his game by game assessment mindset.

Be Bold Coach! You know Stuckey, Gordon, Prince, Villy and Ben Wa Wa need to close out games.

Use your weapons!

Pistons May Shorten Rotation

Pistons coach John Kuester is flirting with the idea of shortening the team’s rotation.

Kuester uses a first and second team, going nine deep at times.

“When you are talking about roles, it is real simple,” Kuester said. “We have to make sure guys know their roles. We have spoken to them a lot about their roles defensively. We have offensive explosion, but we have to make sure we take care of the basketball.”

The coach plans to evaluate the team’s rotation on a game-by-game basis in order to decide who will be on the floor late in games.

Should The Pistons Rebuild Without Rodney Stuckey?

by John W. Davis - posted Saturday, December 11th, 2010

Some Detroit Pistons fans think Rodney Stuckey is our savior… (cough cough DEVEN! cough cough)

Others think it’s time for him to be traded along with or instead of Rip and Tay.

“I think we should trade Stuckey,” typed Pistonscast Listener Dre.

“Sorry, losing weight isn’t impressive and weight wasn’t the problem. Stuckey doesn’t fit with anyone. I wouldn’t mind getting rid of Rip, but I feel the problem is with Stuck. There are plenty of guards ( starters and backups) that can do what Rodney does but better,” continued Dre.

————-

I never thought I would see the day when Pistonscast listeners started writing in that Rodney Stuckey should be traded.

However, Dre makes some valid points.

Is a slimmer Stuckey that much better than a bulky Stuckey?

Also, does Stuckey fit with our other core players?

Both are valid points that I’m opening up for debate.

What’s Wrong With Tayshaun Prince?

by John W. Davis - posted Saturday, November 20th, 2010

Deven has his theories and so do I.

We both agree it’s time to trade Tayshaun Prince on the market.

This is no maybe.

It is a necessity.

Rip and now Tayshaun need to go for the Pistons to move on.

Rip’s contract lowers his value to pennies.

But Tay has that expiring contract that is coveted in today’s NBA.

Maybe we can get Jason Thompson on the Sacremento Kings.

Maybe we get Marvin Williams on the Atlanta Hawks.

But something has to give!

Share your thoughts with us in the comments section.

Peace
