Terrence Williams: The Piston’s Sensible Pick

by Deven - posted Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

Terrence Williams

By Deven Khrucell (aka Pimp Scwalla)

When the Detroit Pistons go on the clock June 25th, it’ll be anybody’s guess who Joe Dumars might draft at number 15 and even more of a mystery is what position. One thing’s for sure, with the current state of the Detroit Pistons, he had better choose carefully.

The Piston’s main concern right now is trying to pick up impact players from the free agent market or by trading for them. Most of the big name free agents are big men like; Bosh, Okur, Boozer, etc… Players like those won’t come cheap. In order to make this possible, there’s a good chance they will lose Rip Hamilton and/or Tayshaun Prince.

The draft pick that I see fitting best in this mix is Louisville Cardinal, Terrence Williams. Williams is a lock-down defender with plenty of explosiveness and is able to knock down three point shots when needed. I also like the fact that he is a four year guy who can guard both the two and the three.

While Williams won’t quickly replace Rip or Tay, drafting a guy like Williams could help soften the blow of losing one or two of Detroit’s cornerstone players. His versatility makes it easy to slide him into either the shooting guard or the small forward position. He also gives the Pistons some leverage when decide which players are going to be here in the future.

Many believe Rodney Stuckey is a better fit at shooting guard and the Piston’s should draft a point guard. That definitely makes sense, but let’s look at the whole picture. Drafting and working with another young point guard (at this point) will be too daunting and could be disastrous for an inexperienced Michael Curry. Besides that, we still don’t know for sure that Rodney’s late season woes were because of the position he plays or the fact that being a great NBA point guard can’t be achieved over night.

Either way we look at it, in order for Detroit to get better, it’s going to cost them at the shooting guard or small forward position–leaving a big hole in the line-up. Why not fill in that hole with someone that can play both - it just makes sense.

What do you think?

How do Pistons fans really feel?

by John W. Davis - posted Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

This is the week to get our true feelings off our chest.

Don’t hold anything back!

The feelings of John W. Davis: “I’m glad we lost. I’m glad we got swept.  Hopefully this exposes all of the players that don’t DESERVE to be Pistons anymore!”

As for anyone who thinks we should have kept Chauncey: Episode 104 is here!

Also make sure you check out  Deven’s timely Chauncey Billups rant!

Chauncey will let the city of Denver and the State of Colorado, Nebraska, Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana (and every other Mountain West Conference State without a NBA team) down, just you wait and see!

Curry on Iverson: “It just didn’t work”

by John W. Davis - posted Sunday, April 5th, 2009

Tan Suit Y'all!

Are Allen Iverson’s days in Detroit over?

According to the Detroit News, Pistons coach Michael Curry spoke on Saturday as though Iverson’s tenture with the team is now over, talking about how both parties tried to make things work but it just did not happen.

“It just didn’t work; it didn’t blend well,” Curry said before Saturday’s 95-90 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. “There was a lot to do with guys changing roles and accepting different roles you have to play. It’s unfortunate things didn’t go as we thought they would.”

Curry thinks Iverson, 33, still can be a force in the league.

“He’s still a starter in this league; he’s going to have a lot of success,” Curry said. “This was a tough situation this year. As he gets older, he’ll have to do different thing so his body can hold up for the rigors of an NBA season. He’ll probably have to adapt a little bit, because I’m not sure how many teams will be centered just around him, but he’s still a very capable player, and at times this year, he was really, really good for us.

“A lot of things maybe I could have done better, and the players could have done better, and maybe he could have done better. All of us, we haven’t gotten it done this year. By no means do I want to make it seem it was just on Allen.

“The reality is we’re in the position we’re in, and we have to make the most of.”

Via Det News:

Just like Coach Curry said, the reality is, we are in 8th place and its DO OR DIE!  PLEASE BOSS UP PISTONS!  We at least need the 7th seed.  Remember wherever Orlando is seeded we want to match up with them in the 1st round!

Curry won’t rush AI’s back… back! (LOL. I BET HE WON’T.)

by John W. Davis - posted Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

Pistons coach Michael Curry won’t rush guard Allen Iverson’s return from a sore back.

Curry said on Tuesday that he wants Iverson at ease with the injury before he returns to the court.

“Hopefully we’ll know more (today), but it’s about him getting to a comfort level with the diagnosis of what’s going on with him,” Curry said. “We’re like that for all our guys.

“We want to make sure that anything they feel, any point of discomfort, we want them to feel comfortable with how their body feels so that when they step on the court, they can give us everything they got.”

Iverson is scheduled for a third exam on Wednesday at Georgetown, the school at which he starred.

Episode 88: What’s up with Coach Curry?

by John W. Davis - posted Friday, February 20th, 2009

Tan Suit Y'all!

What’s Going on World?

John W. Davis here. I have something I want to get off my chest. See I’m mad. You want to know why? Of course you do, that’s why you are reading this.

I’m not mad at the players anymore. I think the trade deadline will bring them closure and comfort in knowing that they are Pistons for rest of the 2009 season.

I’m mad that guys don’t know when they are going to play. I’m also mad that guys who are obviously not cutting it (Stuckey), get all the playing time in the world and guys like Afflalo get DNP-CD’s for no apparent reason.

See I thought it could happen and would happen to my boy Amir and it did. But Afflalo not one minute of the game when you have guys on San Antonio like Mike Finley and George Hill (a rookie!) are making us look silly.

1. What do you think is up with Coach Curry?

2. What would you do to fix it?

Peace,

John W. Davis

Pistons vs. Nets: Tonight at 7:30pm

by John W. Davis - posted Friday, November 7th, 2008

JEEZY SAYS: IVERSON IS HARDER THAN A DINNER PLATE!

YOUNG JEEZY SAYS: "IVERSON IS HARDER THAN A DINNER PLATE!"

What’s Going on World?

John W. Davis here.  The Pistons are on the road tonight against the Brooklyn-New Jersey Nets.  Tonight is definitely AI’s debut.  I’m looking forward to it.  Iverson completed his first PRAC-TICE on thursday.  The starting lineup is supposed to be Iverson, Rip, Tayshaun, Amir and Rasheed.  I’m not opposed to Iverson off the bench but I’m pretty sure that will never happen.

Coach Curry had this to say in the Detroit News about the Pistons starting lineup and where Stuckey stands on the starter’s learning curve.  “Stuckey is still learning,” Curry said. “He has a lot of talent, but he still has a ways to go. I’ve always said, if you don’t give young guys things and you make them earn it, they will keep it.  “If you give them something, you can take it away. He’s earning his keep, and he’s earning his time on the court.”

The Detroit Pistons are 4-0 and the Nets are coming in at 1-2.  Coach Mike Curry went deep into the rotation last game playing 11 B-ballers against the Raps, so look for at least 10 players to hit the floor (and score) in the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey.  I expect a win against the Nets but you never know what will happen away from the Palace.

Check out this cool photo gallery of Iverson in his new Pistons duds.

*Also Rip misses Chauncey.

Peace,

John W. Davis

No more 2nd quarter letdowns from the starters…

by John W. Davis - posted Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

All I have to say is Mike Curry is funny!

-John W. Davis

——————————
FROM THE DET NEWS:
Being ready

Pistons coach Michael Curry joked after the game Saturday that he would put five stationary bikes behind the bench for his starters to ride while they were out of the game, if that meant there would be no more lulls in the second quarter.

In the last six minutes of the second quarter in both games, the Pistons have committed 12 turnovers — eight Saturday against the Wizards while blowing a 16-point lead.

“It’s happening when the starters come back into the game,” Curry said. “Those guys aren’t used to sitting out for long stretches and when they go back in, they aren’t into the game right away and they are turning the ball over. It is something they are going to have to get used to.”

Richard Hamilton , who has eight turnovers in two games, said the stationary bikes weren’t necessary, just more time.

“We’re all used to playing a certain way, getting more minutes in the first half,” Hamilton said. We just have to adjust to sitting for six or seven minutes of the second quarter and then going back in. We just have to find a better rhythm with that.”

Chauncey Billups: Give us 15 to 20 before you judge us

by John W. Davis - posted Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

AM I READY?

AM I READY?

DET NEWS ARTICLE:

Billups said the team is emotionally and physically ready to start the season, but he cautioned fans not to expect a finished product right out of the gate.

“We aren’t going to be a polished, well-oiled machine in the first 15 to 20 games,” Billups said, “because we’ve got guys playing different roles and we have a new system.

“But we are going to be fine. We have a high basketball IQ here and we’re going to figure it out, and we’re going to be good. It’s just going to take a little time.”

——————————————-

What’s Going on World?

John W. Davis here.  I’m feeling good today. Why?  The Message Board Messiah aka Adam Lader and John W. Davis will be in the building for opening night. I know, jealous right?

Anyway, heed Chauncey’s words and don’t micro-judge every mistake for the first 20 games of the season.  Amir is new.  Tayshaun is still working on his consistency.  Even Chauncey has to work on getting his swagger back.  We all know Rasheed has to work on focusing on his offensive interior presence.  Even Rip has to consistently bring it on defense or he might find Arron Afflalo playing a bit more than he would like.

The beginning of this season is a learning experience for all the players and especially the coach.  Coach Curry has preached accountability but it’s going to take more than that.  It will take actually head coaching.  Although he was the captain of the Pistons when he retired, and an assistant coach last year, he is still learning and experience a lot of coaching trials and tribulations for the first time.

So after the first twenty games if the Pistons are 12-8, don’t worry because that’s a .600 % winning percentage and over the long haul that makes us a contender in the East.

Peace,

John W. Davis

Coach Curry: We Must Protect This Paint!

by Pistonscast - posted Friday, October 24th, 2008

Via MLive:

Pistons’ coach Michael Curry believes that his team is giving up too much in the paint to opposing teams.

“We got some more work to do,” Curry said after the team’s 88-87 loss to the Hawks on Thursday night. “That’s what we take from tonight’s game.”

Atlanta outscored Detroit 54-32 in the paint.

“Fifty-four points in the paint, I don’t care what we’re playing; that’s unacceptable for how we’re going to play basketball,” Curry said. “That just shows that we have some more work to do.”

Is our post defense ready for the regular season?
